While these are some of the most technical, beautiful and rewarding motorcycle routes in Australia, you’ll be pleased to learn even the roads leading to the courses are enjoyable.

Preparing for a Motorcycle Trip

Depending on your current skill level, you might want to start with the beginner roads to warm yourself up and aim to hit an intermediate or advanced route later.

Before you hit the open road, make sure that you’ve planned out your trip accordingly. You’re going for the experience and to determine an entirely new level of riding, but what about gas, food and other necessities? It’s vital to plan out your trip, as many of the roads are more than 100 km.

Map out gas stations along the way to make sure you don’t run out of fuel at any point during your ride. Assuming you are riding without a time crunch, you can decide where you will take a break or grab a bite to eat. Staying hydrated, whether you’re in the mountains or riding down the valleys, is critical to remaining alert.

And don’t forget about your gear. For extended trips, be sure to wear:

  • Boots
  • Eye protection
  • Eye protection
  • Helmet
  • Leather or heavy jacket
  • Motorcycle pants

Aside from safety gear, you will also want to pack a bag with water, snacks and a first aid kit. Many of these roads go beyond the average rider’s daily trip, so it’s essential to prepare beyond your standard equipment. Clothing for inclement weather like rain will likely be helpful, along with a map or GPS to guide you.

Be Comfortable On the Bike That You’re On

It’s not surprising that some of the best motorcycle rides in the world are in Australia. Covering environments ranging from deserts and forests to ocean views and the countryside, Australia is like no other place on Earth. You have the freedom to plan one of the eight greatest routes or even all of them. Ride with your buddies, or take the trip alone to cruise solo. Whichever trip you select, plan accordingly.

While some people will choose to ride their own motorcycle and put it to the ultimate test, other enthusiasts may want a unique experience with a different bike and may choose to rent one. In this case, make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to get used to a new machine before trying any more difficult routes.

Selecting a bike that fits your skill level will also help you get through the more technical portions of each course. Whether you’re carving through the Oxley Highway, canyon running through NSW or soaking up the ocean views near Victoria, you’re sure to have an unforgettable ride.
